According to a media report, prices for Tesla cars in the used car market are going out of control. Tesla models with more than 30,000 miles (48,000 km) are being sold at prices higher than brand new ones.
Tesla has been slowly increasing the prices of its entire model lineup over the last few months. However, this hasn't stopped the used car market to list prices higher than new vehicles. Reports state that one of the reasons for the high prices in the used car market is the slowing down of production & sales of new cars caused due to supply chain issues. This is especially true for electric vehicles and even more so for Tesla models which are rarer to find in the second-hand market.
Another reason why used Teslas are demanding a premium is the fact that Tesla is said to be adding Full Self-Driving packages to all the used models it is reselling.
Stating examples for the same, the report mentions how a 2020 Tesla Model Y with 30,000 miles on the odo is listed for $1,000 more than a brand new model with the same configuration. Depending on the month it was purchased in 2020, prices for a Model Y can vary anywhere between $6,000 - $10,000 more than a new vehicle.
