Uber starts accepting cash payments in Mumbai

Uber has now started accepting cash payment in Mumbai. With this step, the company is making an attempt to attract customers who prefer to make payments in cash rather than electronic methods.

In most cities, Uber has been accepting payments only through credit card, debit card and Paytm wallet. Ola, the company's main rival, has been accepting payments in cash and controls a much larger market share. In India, the number of customers who prefer to or can make payments in cash, is much larger than those who use credit cards.

If Uber is to close the gap to Ola, it has to start accepting cash payments. The company has already rolled the payment model in various cities across India including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi NCR, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Mysore, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Vadodara, and Visakhapatnam.

How it works:

  • Go to the Uber smartphone app and click on 'Set pick up location'
  • Click 'Change' on the available payment method
  • Select 'Cash' as your payment method
  • Hit 'Request a Trip'
  • Part payments on cash trips with Paytm wallet and other payment options are not permitted
  • Pay the exact amount shown to you and the driver

Other points:

  • Valid Uber account required
  • No minimum balance in Paytm wallet required
  • Fare adjustment is not possible
