Uber starts accepting cash payments in Hyderabad

Web-based cab aggregator Uber has announced that it is now accepting cash payments in the city of Hyderabad. This step has been taken to test this mode of payment since fewer people in India have credit cards than internet connections.

Uber's rivals such as Ola Cabs, accept cash payments and controls a much larger share in the organised cab market in India. Uber has been accepting payments through credit cards and other electronic payment methods. With the move to accept cash payments, the company will try to attract more customers and expand its business.

Most of the purchases in India are done with cash. The country has a population of 1.3 billion. For the entire population, only 20 million credit cards have been issued.

Uber has also tied up with autorickshaws in the recent past. It had started accepting cash payments for autorickshaw services in Delhi.
