TVS Akula spotted testing for the first time

The TVS Akula has been spotted testing on public roads for the first time. The heavily camouflaged test mule was reportedly snapped testing on the outskirts of Bangalore. The Akula will be the first fully faired motorcycle from the TVS Motor Co. It will also be the largest capacity motorcycle ever produced by the brand.

The Akula was showcased as a concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. It will be built as part of the TVS-BMW Motorrad JV, and will thus be based on the BMW G 310 R naked motorcycle. Though the test mule spotted was camouflaged to disguise the final design, it is clear from the spy shots that TVS has retained most of the design cues of the concept bike, especially at the front.

Powering the TVS Akula will be the same 313 cc, liquid cooled, single-cylinder engine that does the powering duty in the BMW G310 R. It is expected to develop around 34 BHP and 28 Nm of torque, and will likely be mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

The recent spy shots have started rumours that TVS is planning to launch the Akula in India, before the BMW G310R is introduced. Earlier reports have already confirmed that the BMW G310 R will not launch in India this year. As a result, TVS does have plenty of time to test and launch the Akula. Once launched, the TVS Akula will go head-on against the KTM RC390, Yamaha YZF-R3, and Kawasaki Ninja 300.
