Toyota resumes production at Bidadi plant

A group of workers are still on a sit-in strike even as production resumes.

Even as the union strike continues, Toyota has resumed production at its Bidadi plant in Karnataka.

The company has stated that the supervisory staff and workmen have signed an undertaking and resumed their duties, despite the continuation of the illegal strike by a group of workers.

1,200 workers at Toyota's Bidadi plant had gone on strike from November 9. They were opposing the suspension of a union office bearer.

Soon after, Toyota had declared a lock-out at both its plants in Bidadi. The lock-out was withdrawn on November 19 following a state government directive. However, even after the withdrawal of the lock-out, only a few workers reported to duty. Therefore, the lock-out was re-instituted on November 23.

Toyota's Bidadi plant has an annual production capacity of 3.10 lakh units.
