Toyota recalls 44,989 units of Innova

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Indian subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation has issued a recall for 44,989 units of the Innova MPV, manufactured between February 2005 and December 2008.

The recall has been issued in order to replace a defective spiral cable mounted on the steering wheel. According to the manufacturer, the faulty cable results in the airbag warning lamp on the instrument cluster glowing constantly. This could result in the deactivation of the driver airbag.

The company is working on obtaining the necessary replacement parts. Once these are available, customers will be contacted by authorised dealers. The repairs will be conducted free of cost and will take about an hour's time.

The exercise comes as a part of a global recall involving 6.58 million cars, which may suffer faults in the steering and seats. This will go down as one of the largest recalls in the history of the automobile industry.
