Tesla made 5,00,000 cars in 2020

The electric carmaker produced 5,09,737 units and delivered 4,99,550 of those to customers.

Tesla has released its production numbers for the year 2020. The electric carmaker produced 5,09,737 units and delivered 4,99,550 of those to customers.

This is an important milestone as Tesla took a little over 12 years to achieve the 1 million (10 lakh) milestone back in early 2020. The company was founded in 2003, but production commenced in 2008 with the Tesla Roadster. The milestone is even more commendable considering the fact that Tesla sells only electric vehicles. 

Of the 509,737 units produced, the Model 3 and Y numbers stood at 454,932 while the more expensive Model S and X came in at 54,805. Compared to 2019, Tesla deliveries increased by 36% despite the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Tesla also achieved a 24% increase in quarter to quarter and 71% increase YoY for production numbers.
