Tata Nexon engines announced

The Tata Nexon compact crossover is set to debut this festive season. Tata Motors has now revealed details of the engines that will power the vehicle. These include a new 1.2-litre petrol engine and 1.5-litre diesel unit.

The 1,198cc turbocharged Revotron petrol motor uses a 3-cylinder block and produces a peak output of 108 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and peak torque of 170 Nm @ 2,000-4,000 rpm.

The 1,496cc, 4-cylinder Revotorq diesel unit makes 108 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and churns out a peak torque of 260 Nm @ 1,500-2,750 rpm. Both engines will be available with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Tata claims that the Nexon will be the first car in its segment to offer three driving modes - Eco, City and Sport. The engines were designed and developed in-house with inputs from Tata's main suppliers. The Revotron engine will be manufactured in Sanand, Gujarat, while the Ranjangaon factory near Pune will build the new diesel engine.
