Tata Nexon with an AMT unit spied

Tata Nexon has recently been spotted with an automated manual transmission (AMT) unit. The interior spy shots reveal an AMT gear shifter similar to the Zest, although with a slightly different design. According to media reports, Tata Motors could launch the Nexon AMT in early 2018.

The AMT gear shifter gets chrome detailing on the bottom and a piano black finished base with chrome surround. The pictures also show that the dashboard gets a floating 6.5-inch touchscreen which indicates that the AMT might be offered on the top end XZ+ trim.

Meanwhile, Tata will soon launch the Nexon with a 6-speed manual transmission. The compact SUV will be offered with a choice of two engines - a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol unit developing 108 BHP and 170 Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel motor that produces 108 BHP and 260 Nm of torque.

Tata currently sources the automated manual transmission units for the Nano, Tiago and Zest from Magneti Marelli. The Nexon will likely get a similar AMT unit for its 6-speed transmission with creep function. Reports suggest that the AMT unit will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. The Nexon AMT will also get the three drive modes (City, Eco and Sport) along with a manual mode to shift gears.
