Tata Motors to launch Zest compact sedan on August 12

Tata Motors has announced that it will launch the Zest compact sedan on August 12, 2014. The company has been accepting bookings for the car since last month.

The Zest is built on a reworked version of Tata's X1 platform, which underpins the Vista and Manza. While the car's silhouette is similar to older Tata products, all the body panels of the car are new. The interiors of the car have been redesigned as well. The overall quality of the Zest is much better than any other Tata car.

The Zest will come with a choice of two engines:

  • 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, 89 bhp turbocharged petrol engine from Tata Motors' Revotron engine family
  • 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, 89 bhp Quadrajet diesel

While the petrol will get only a 5-speed manual gearbox, the diesel will get an automated manual transmission (AMT) as well.

The Zest will be pitted against other sub-four metre sedans in the market such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent. The car is manufactured at the Tata-Fiat plant in Ranjangaon, near Pune.

The Zest and the upcoming Bolt hatchback are important cars for Tata Motors. They are the products that the company is looking at to revive its fortunes. The company is also making efforts to ensure that its customers have a good experience. Additional personnel are being hired and trained and dealerships are being modernised to ensure efficiency.
