Summarising Tata's service centre experience with my 2L km run Nexon

After Concorde shut down, shifted to Adhishakti, before then finding and sticking with Prerana Motors.

BHPian pradeepkc recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I will do my best to summarize the ownership very briefly. Again, apologies for not putting down a detailed ownership review primarily because he drove/sat most of the mileage and he can probably speak better on his experience. I will summarize the service experience so far because I have dropped his car off at the service centre for the most part after his initial service experience. I will do my best to remember what I can.

When we first bought the car, every once in a while, the battery would get drained out and we had to jump-start it to get going. When he took the car to the service centre, they would dismiss it saying he pressed the start button twice when turning off the engine or forgot to turn off the infotainment, etc. After this happened 4 times, I took the car to the service centre (it was the Concorde Motors near Diary Circle) and I wanted documented evidence of what they checked and gave it to in my writing. They said they fixed it and when I took the car out of the service centre, it stopped right in front of the forum mall in peak traffic. I got pretty agitated and had them come and fix it right away. They took it back and the service manager dropped the car off at home after a couple of days (we live in north Bangalore). He said they identified the issue (it was a wiring issue) and asked us to call him directly if that happened again.

After Concorde closed, we started dropping it off at Adishakti near Manyata. It would take forever to get an appointment and they would never get to the minor issues. Then I found Prerana Motors in Peenya and they were miles ahead with regards to service experience when compared to Adishakti. They always had an appointment available and they would also generally preventatively replace parts when we complained.

Here is the list of parts replaced under warranty:

  • Very early on we heard a humming noise from one of the wheels, they replaced the bearing under warranty and there's been no issue until recently
  • They replaced the AMT Box (Not the transmission) under warranty when we complained of jerky shifts around 60K (The calibration didn't seem to help after some point).
  • Around 140K when Dad was in Hyderabad on work, his Nexon didn't start and they identified the issue as a faulty Fuel Pump. They offered to repair it for 45k because the new was more than double the cost according to my Dad's conversation with them. He asked them to ahead and repair it. When he told me about the incident after he had gotten it done, I told him that he should have probably just gotten the part replaced instead. He said they seemed trustworthy. And I guess he was right, so far the repaired fuel pump is running fine.
  • He has replaced the tyres twice so far (once at around 100k and he's been on a new set since last week).
  • He had a minor incident when a Cab crashed into his side fender and front bumper trying to overtake him, he got that work done under insurance at Adishakti. The paint match was pretty decent and the paint job was good too.
  • When he dropped off his car for 200K service recently, Prerana Motors did free detailing work (rubbing and polishing) on his car and they also gave him a set of detailing products as a compliment.
  • He still prefers company service because the service costs have been low so far
  • He also thinks that bearings in one of the wheels may need to be replaced soon (He's one of those who will push maintenance till it's needed or till I make enough noise about it that he surrenders, lol).
  • He's 76 and still enjoys driving and loves his Nexon. He feels it's a reliable and tough-built car. Before that, he has driven a Ford Fiesta, Figo, Opel Astra Club, Esteem, Zen, 1000, 800, Padmini, Fiat 1100D etc (I might have missed a couple) for more than 40 years.
