Sub GT3 Porsche 911's to go turbo from 2016

Forced induction systems are gradually moving from performance enhancers to becoming a necessity. Mercedes-Benz introduced the AMG GT as a 4.0-litre turbo V8 rival to the Porsche 911. It has now been revealed, that the 911 itself will get a turbo-charger as standard from 2016.

As expected, the change comes in light of the increasingly stringent emission norms that are being put into action. Porsche will be launching a new 911 GT3 RS at the Geneva motor show in March this year that features a powerful naturally aspirated engine. Porsche's engineering chief Wolfgang Hatz said, the face-lifted 911's that will be brought in next year, will feature a less powerful, turbo-charged version of that same engine.

Hatz added that the German car maker is also working on a more efficient V8 for the next generation Cayenne and Panamera, while making the models lighter as well.
