Sub 10 lakh Jeep SUV confirmed

Head of the Jeep brand, Mike Manley, has reportedly confirmed the American automaker's plans to develop a sub 10 lakh SUV for the Indian market. The brand head has also commented that this upcoming compact SUV from Jeep will be priced similar to the top-end Ford EcoSport. Once launched, the said B-Segment SUV will become the new entry-level model in Jeep's portfolio.

The automaker is still in the drawing stages of the Compact SUV project. For the Indian market, Jeep is expecting to manufacture the vehicle locally at its parent company - FCA's plant in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. India might also become a global manufacturing hub for producing the compact SUV for RHD markets.

Mike Manley has also indicated the possibility of Jeep and Tata Motors strengthening their partnership in the country to enhance sharing of technology, engine, transmission and platform components. The Ranjangaon Plant is a part of the current Tata-Fiat Joint Venture.

Jeep officially entered the Indian market earlier this year. It currently offers two carlines in the country: the Wrangler (priced at Rs. 71.6 lakh) and the Grand Cherokee (starts at Rs. 93.6 lakh).
