Skoda Vision E sketches revealed ahead of Shanghai unveil

Skoda has revealed sketches and details of the Vision E concept, ahead of its official debut at the Shanghai Motor Show, which is scheduled from April 19-28, 2017. This marks Skoda's first ever fully electric vehicle.

The official sketches revealed indicate that the Vision E concept will adopt an SUV coupe-like structure. Dimensionally, the electric concept will be 4,645 mm long, 1,917 mm wide and 1,550 mm tall, while its wheelbase will be 2,850 mm. It will be built on Volkswagen's MEB platform.

The all-electric powertrain of the Vision E concept, consisting of two electric motors and lithium-ion batteries, is being claimed to develop 302 BHP, which can help the SUV to reach a top speed of 180 km/h. Skoda is also claiming a range of 500 km for the Vision E. Additionally, the batteries can be charged up to 80% in just 30 minutes with a fast charger.

In addition to Skoda's electric mobility debut, the Vision E concept will also be loaded with the car maker's autonomous driving tech. Skoda is claiming that the electric concept SUV will come with level 3 autonomous driving capabilities. This means that it will be able to independently operate in traffic jams without human intervention, go on auto-pilot mode on the highways, search for free parking spaces and park, do automated overtaking maneuvers and maintain its lane during driving.

Skoda is claiming that the company will start adopting electric mobility with the Superb plug-in hybrid that is expected to be launched in 2019. Meanwhile, the automaker is aiming to launch its first-ever all-electric vehicle, which will likely be based on the Vision E concept, in 2020. By 2025, Skoda is hoping to have 5 all-electric models in its portfolio.
