Thank you to BHPian SunnyBoi for posting this image! Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts.

A camouflaged Volvo E-Hybrid city bus was spotted while being transported. The bus in question had a sticker of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) department on the rear glass, indicating that the bus might be used for trial runs.

In December last year, Volvo announced that its hybrid buses would be a part of a city bus pilot in Navi Mumbai, starting in the first half of 2016. In order to promote environmentally-friendly vehicles, the Indian government launched the FAME India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles in India) scheme, offering incentives on electric and hybrid vehicles, in order to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Volvo also stated that its hybrids would be produced at the company’s facility in Bangalore.

Volvo has sold around 2,300 hybrid buses in over 20 countries. The company claims that its hybrids consume 39% less fuel than regular diesel buses, with a significant cut in carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. Volvo’s electric hybrids are said to offer fuel savings of up to 75%. In all, Volvo has sold more than 5,000 hybrids and full electric buses worldwide.
