Rumour: Toyota Yaris to be launched on May 18, 2018

Toyota is likely to launch the Yaris on May 18, 2018 with deliveries kicking off on the same day. Earlier, Toyota had announced that bookings would commence in April 2018, but there have been reports of some dealerships accepting pre-bookings for a sum of Rs. 50,000.

The Toyota Yaris has large sweptback headlamps in the front featuring projector lights and LED DRLs, while the rear features wraparound tail lights. The car has a coupe-like roofline. It gets alloy wheels and comes equipped with disc brakes on both axles. Moving to the interior, the Yaris gets leather upholstery and ambient lighting. It has a 7.0-inch infotainment system with integrated navigation and gesture control. Other features include cruise control, rain sensing wipers, electric ORVMs and power adjustable driver seat.

In India, the Yaris will be offered with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine. Toyota hasn't announced the final specifications of the engine however it is likely to have a peak output of 106 BHP. The engine will be paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed CVT with paddle shift. In terms of safety features, the Yaris gets ABS with EBD, 7 airbags, hill start assist, traction control, stability control, front and rear parking sensors and reversing camera.

The Toyota Yaris will compete with the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz in the mid-size sedan segment.
