Rumour: Tata's upcoming SUVs codenamed Kestrel and Goshawk

In keeping with the tradition of codenaming its upcoming cars after birds of prey, Tata Motors is rumoured to have christened two new SUVs Kestrel and Goshawk.

The Kestrel, earlier referred to as the Q501, is a 5-seater and will be a competitor for the Renault Duster. According to a report by Motor Octane, it will be powered by a new Fiat-sourced 1.5-litre diesel engine. It is expected to be equipped with features such as a Harman-developed infotainment system and dual airbags. The vehicle is likely to cost between Rs. 11 lakh and Rs. 14 lakh (on-road).

The Goshawk, earlier referred to as the Q502 is a larger vehicle with 7 seats. Powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine, again from Fiat, this SUV will slot above the Safari Storme in the company's line-up and will compete against the Mahindra XUV500. It is likely to be priced in the Rs. 13-18 lakh (on-road) range. Like the Kestrel, the Goshawk is expected to be loaded with features such as multiple airbags and Harman-developed infotainment system.

Both the new SUVs are expected to use the Land Rover Discovery Sport platform.
