Rumour: Tata Kite hatchback to be called Glade

Tata Motors has been testing a hatchback and a compact sedan based on it. Codenamed Kite, the two new models are expected to slot just above the Nano in the company's line-up. According to a media report, the Kite hatchback will be called the Glade when it goes on sale.

The Glade is likely to sport Tata's new design language that has been seen on the Zest and Bolt which were launched in the last fiscal. It is expected to get a smiling front fascia, a honeycomb mesh grille and bulging headlights. The rear of the car will see modern wraparound tail lamps and a curved boot lid with a roof-mounted spoiler.

Powering the Kite will be a new 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder, common rail diesel engine. This engine will put out 64 bhp and 140 Nm of torque. The Kite is also expected to be available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine.

The Kite is likely to be rolled out of Tata Motors' Sanand plant. The plant, which had been originally built for the Nano, is being under-utilised at the moment.
