Royal Enfield is expected to launch the BS-IV Himalayan in India in the near future. It is being reported that the updated models will reach all company showrooms across India by July 15, 2017. Bookings for the Himalayan are already underway, with deliveries expected to commence in August.

The Himalayan was first launched in India in March 2016. While the adventure tourer did manage to catch quite a few eyeballs and brought in sufficient sales numbers for the Chennai-based manufacturer, owners had been claiming about certain quality related issues. This included a horrific account of an owner whose Himalayan's frame is said to have cracked while the bike was on the move. There were multiple customers who pointed towards issues related to the clutch, gearbox or excessive noise from the bike, which was brought to the company's knowledge, after which an official recall was issued to address the same.

After BS-IV emission regulations were enforced on April 1, 2017, Royal Enfield decided to discontinue the current model and take some time off to solve all quality-related issues. The updated model, which also comes with electronic fuel injection (EFI), will thus be compliant with the BS-IV norms and is expected to have better QC standards.
