Rumour: Renault Kwid 1.0-litre bookings open

Renault dealers across the country have reportedly started accepting bookings of the Kwid 1.0-litre. Rumours on the Internet suggest that the French automaker might launch the bigger-engine variant of the Kwid hatchback on August 23, 2016.

The 800 cc Kwid is constantly clocking around 9,000 unit sales since the past few months. With the new, bigger engine, Renault India is hoping to further increase these numbers. The 1.0-litre Kwid will compete against the Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon 1.0L.

Renault showcased the Kwid 1.0L at this year's Auto Expo in February. While the model showcased did have an AMT option, sources now suggest that the Kwid AMT will be launched at a later date. As a result, the 1.0-litre engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and will churn out around 67 BHP.

Renault India will also likely offer new features with the Kwid 1.0L, including standard dual airbags, rear power windows and larger 14-inch alloy wheels.
