Rumour: Range Rover Velar bookings open in India

Land Rover dealerships across India have reportedly started accepting bookings for the Range Rover Velar. The British automaker hasn't yet announced the commencement of deliveries. However, media reports suggest that dealerships are accepting bookings at a token amount of Rs. 3 lakh. Previous reports have indicated that the Velar will be launched in the country by the end of this year.

Globally unveiled in March this year, Velar is the fourth product in the Range Rover line-up. It is built on Land Rover's lightweight aluminium architecture. It retains the characteristic design elements of its siblings from the Range Rover family, but gets relatively smoother character lines across the body panels. The front features full LED headlamps, DRLs and a wide grille. The side profile reveals a sloping roof line, blacked out pillars and large alloy wheels, while the rear adorns LED taillights and chromed twin-exhaust pipes.

The international-spec model is equipped with 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines in the entry level variants, while higher trims also get an option of 3.0-litre V6 diesel and petrol engines. The SUV comes with standard Range Rover features, including the company's off-road technological features like Terrain Response 2, active rear locking e-differential and torque vectoring.

The Velar will be brought to India through the CBU route. It will slot between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport, and will be competing against the likes of the BMW X5, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 and the Porsche Macan.
