Rumour: Next-gen Nissan Micra could be built in India

In August 2014, we had reported that Nissan will build the next-generation Micra (for the European market) in France instead of India. However, the company is likely to keep rolling out the car from its Chennai plant to cater to the Africa, Middle East and India (AMEI) region.

For Europe, Nissan will use its CMF platform to underpin the next-generation Micra. However, for the AMEI region, this may not prove to be cost-effective and the car could use the same V platform that underpins the current model.

While the European Micra will be built with a focus on handling and NVH, the AMEI version is likely to have higher fuel efficiency, a better ride and a more comfortable rear seat.

The styling of the next-gen Micra is expected to be inspired by the Nissan Sway concept that was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.
