Rumour: New-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class India launch by Feb end

As per recent media reports, Mercedes-Benz will be launching the new-gen E-Class in India by the end of February 2017. This will mark the launch of the 5th generation E-Class in the country.

The new-gen E-Class is built on Mercedes-Benz's latest 'Sensual Purity' design language, and thus looks similar to the latest C-Class and S-Class. It retains some of the design elements of the current model, including the long bonnet, coupe-like roofline and short overhangs. The new-gen E-Class is longer by 43 mm, while its wheelbase has been stretched by 66 mm. However, the width and height of the new model have been decreased by 2 mm and 6 mm, respectively. It is also 70 kg lighter than the current model.

Interiors of the new-gen E-Class are inspired by its elder sibling - the S-Class. It gets a 3-spoke steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, touchpad with handwriting recognition, voice control, ambient lighting and a 23 speaker Burmester 3D sound system.

The India-spec E-Class will likely be powered by 2.0-litre, six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Transmission duties are expected to be handled by Mercedes' new 9-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes will also introduce a V8 powered AMG variant later during the car's lifetime.
