Rumour: Maruti Suzuki's Creta-rivalling SUV coming in 2020

According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki is evaluating a new mid-size SUV for the Indian market. It will be positioned above the Vitara Brezza and could compete with the Hyundai Creta. The new model could be launched around mid-2020.

The new SUV is expected to share its underpinnings with the next-gen Vitara. It is expected to be around 4.3 meters in length and is likely to feature boxy styling with an upright stance. It is still unclear if Maruti would offer a 7-seater version, but it is expected to get all the latest creature comforts and safety features.

The SUV could be offered with BS-VI compliant petrol and diesel engine options. These could include a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit and a 1.5-litre diesel engine, that is being developed in-house.

Reports suggest that the new SUV could retail via Maruti's premium Nexa outlets.
