According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki is likely to sell its electric vehicles (EVs) via its Nexa retail chain. The brand's first EV is expected to be launched in 2020.
Maruti's premium offerings are sold via Nexa dealerships. These include the Ciaz, Baleno, Ignis and S-Cross. The first electric models of the brand are likely to be priced at a premium over cars like the WagonR and Swift. Therefore, it is rumoured that the EVs could be sold via the Nexa chain.
The report says that Maruti has started building its Nexa dealership network before the introduction of EVs. At present, there are more than 250 Nexa dealerships in India. The company is reportedly planning to open 300 service outlets by the end of 2019.
Maruti Suzuki has already started testing EVs in India. The test mules of the WagonR-based EVs are rumoured to be powered by a 72V electric motor connected to a 10-25 kWh lithium-ion battery.
