Rumour: Maruti Ciaz to get 1.5L petrol engine with SHVS

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift is expected to get a new 1.5-litre petrol engine with SHVS (mild hybrid system). The car will be launched later this year.

The new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine recently made its debut with the second generation Ertiga. It develops 103 BHP of peak power and 138 Nm of torque. The mild hybrid system adds features like idle stop-start, brake energy regeneration and torque assist to improve fuel economy.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki offers SHVS with the diesel variants of the Ertiga, Ciaz and S-Cross. The engine is a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder unit that puts out 89 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm. Suzuki also offers the mild hybrid system with petrol engines in international markets.
