Rumour: Maruti cars to come with Harman Kardon audio system

Thank you to BHPian aniketi for sharing this information with other enthusiasts!

Maruti Suzuki cars might come with Harman Kardon audio systems from 2017. The company is currently developing these systems with the audio equipment supplier. The first Maruti car to come with the Harman Kardon infotainment system will probably be the Maruti Ignis, as Suzuki has already given the contract for the international-spec Ignis to the Stamford based audio firm.

Interestingly, Harman Kardon has been supplying infotainment systems to Tata Motors for the past couple of years. The Tata Bolt, Zest, and the recently launched Tata Tiago are all equipped with Harman Kardon audio systems. The company even worked with Tata Motors during the development of the Tiago hatchback in order to optimize speaker placement and audio system ergonomics. It is still not clear whether we will be seeing a similar, in-depth relation between Maruti and Harmon Kardon, or the later would just act as a component supplier.

If the aforementioned rumours do come out to be true, most of the cars in Maruti's line-up will start being offered with Harman Kardon audio systems, probably only in the top-end trims. The systems will be supplied from Harman's production facility in Pune, Maharashtra.
