Rumour: Maruti Baleno RS India launch in March 2017

If recent media reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki will be launching the Baleno RS in India in March 2017. It will be available only in the top-end Alpha trim and will be sold through the NEXA dealership chain.

The Baleno RS is basically a performance-oriented version of the Baleno hatchback. It will come with a 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbocharged petrol engine. As per the specification sheet leaked earlier, this engine will be able to develop 101 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 150 Nm of torque @ 1,700 - 4,500 rpm. The only transmission option available for the time being would be a 5-speed MT gearbox.

The Baleno RS was first showcased as a production-ready concept at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. Once launched, it will be competing against the likes of the VW Polo GT TSI and Punto Abarth.
