Rumour: Mahindra Thar to get 180 mStallion Pro engine

With the new engine, the Thar's top speed could increase from 150 km/h to 180 km/h.

Mahindra is believed to be working on a more powerful turbo-petrol engine that will be part of the mStallion family.

Rumours suggest that the 180 mStallion unit is expected to be introduced in the Thar sometime around mid-2021. While technical details about the new motor are not known, it is the same 2.0L 4-pot engine in a higher state of tune. Thanks to the more potent powerplant, the top speed of the Thar would increase from 150 km/h to 180 km/h.

At present, the Thar is available with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder mStallion petrol engine that produces 150 BHP and 320 Nm. The off-roader also comes with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel that makes 130 BHP and 320 Nm. Both engines are available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
