Rumour: Jaguar to launch XE diesel in India in April 2017

Jaguar is likely to launch a diesel variant of the XE sedan in India by the end of this month i.e. April 2017. However, the automaker hasn't mentioned a specific launch date yet.

The XE sedan was launched in India during the 2016 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. It is currently offered with a petrol engine only, which is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged unit that is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This engine is available in two states of tune - 197 BHP / 320 Nm and 237 BHP / 340 Nm.

The diesel variant is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder Ingenium engine, which will be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This is the same unit that powers the XF sedan and the F-Pace SUV. The official power and torque figures of the XE diesel haven't surfaced yet.

The Jaguar XE competes against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4 and the BMW 3 Series. The petrol line-up is currently priced in the range of Rs. 39.90 lakh to Rs. 47.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
