Rumour: Hyundai and Renault cars to use ZF Sachs AMT

With automated manual transmissions (AMT) gaining popularity in the Indian automobile market, Hyundai and Renault have decided to equip their car with the technology as well.

According to a report by Autocar India, Hyundai will use an AMT gearbox in the Grand i10 hatchback. The next-gen Eon is also likely to get the technology. French carmaker Renault, will equip its upcoming entry-level hatchback, the XBA (Kayou) with the transmission.

Both the manufacturers will source AMT kits from German automotive component manufacturer, ZF Sachs. Till now, manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors have been using AMTs manufactured by Italian company, Magneti Marelli.

An AMT gearbox doesn't need a clutch to be depressed, and makes driving a car relatively stress-free. Additionally, it does not cost as much as a conventional automatic gearbox. This means that AMT-equipped cars are not much more expensive compared to their manual siblings.
