Rumour: Honda mulls reintroduction of Civic in India

Honda is rumoured to be considering the reintroduction of the Civic in the Indian market in 2017.

The eighth-generation Civic was sold in India between 2006 and 2013. It was discontinued as demand for cars in the D1 segment fell. Honda also discontinued the larger Accord sedan later in the same year.

There have been reports that the Accord will be reintroduced with a hybrid powertrain later this year. The car was displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo, which was held in February. The Civic will be positioned between the Accord and City in the company's sedan line-up.

In India, the Civic will compete with the Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Jetta.

At present, Honda is concentrating its efforts in the budget segments in India. With the reintroduction of its larger sedans, the company will once again acknowledge the higher segments of the Indian market.
