Rumour: FCA might launch Mopar brand in India

FCA might bring its parts, service and customer care wing - Mopar to India. The announcement was reportedly made by Kevin Flynn, MD and CEO of FCA India, during the recently concluded Camp Jeep event in Mumbai.

Mopar, which is a combination of the words 'MOtor' and 'PARts', first came to light in 1920 as a parts supplier for Chrysler vehicles. In 1937, the Mopar brand was formed as an independent entity under the Chrysler group. Currently, Mopar is considered as a stand-alone service and parts wing of the Fiat Chrysler Automotive group and has operations in over 150 markets.

The introduction of Mopar brand in India will likely be FCA's attempt to avoid its Jeep brand from getting tarnished by the infamous after-sales and service image of Fiat India. Moreover, with the Mopar brand, Jeep customers in the country will be given a wide range of customization options for their vehicles.

The Mopar brand will likely be launched in India later this year. FCA is expected to coincide its launch with the unveiling of the Jeep Compass SUV in the country.
