Rumour: 2017 Mercedes E-Class to soon get an E 220 d variant

Mercedes-Benz recently launched the 2017 E-Class in India. The car is being offered only in the long wheelbase version and is currently available in two variants - E 200 and E 350 d. The line-up is missing an entry-level diesel variant at the moment. However, reports now suggest that Mercedes will soon add an E 220 d variant to the range, which will fill the void.

The E 220 d is expected to be powered by an all-new 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that will churn out around 191 BHP and 400 Nm of torque. Reports suggest that Mercedes is currently in the process of downgrading the engine from Euro-VI to BS-IV emission norms. This is being done to ensure that it can operate on the BS-IV fuel available in India.

This downgrading is a time-consuming process. While Mercedes hasn't yet revealed any information about the new engine option for the E-Class, it is being reported that the new E 220 d variant could to be introduced in June 2017.
