Porsche Taycan sets record shortest cross-country charge time

The record-attempt car was a standard MY21 Taycan with the Performance Battery Plus.

The Porsche Taycan has set a new Guinness World Record by completing a cross-country trip with the shortest total charging time.

The electric sports car is said to have covered a total distance of 2,845.5 miles (4561.7 kilometres) between Los Angeles to New York, with a total charge time of just 2 hours, 26 minutes and 48 seconds. The 2021 Porsche Taycan used for the record attempt was driven by Wayne Gerdes - a multi-Guinness World Record titleholder.

As part of the record attempt, Gerdes was required to meet a strict set of requirements. These included noting down every stop and having individual witnesses for each stop. Also, each mile covered by the Taycan was filmed and tracked via GPS and accounted for before being certified by a panel of adjudicators. Gerdes plotted the entire journey using the Electrify America App and benefitted from the Plug-and-charge system for the majority of the trip.

The record-attempt car was a standard MY21 Taycan with the Performance Battery Plus. It also featured additional luxury items such as the Premium Package, Adaptive Cruise Control and the Porsche Electric Sport Sound.
