Porsche 911 Dakar to be globally unveiled on 16 November

The off-road version is expected to carry forward the 443 BHP flat-six cylinder engine from the Carrera 4S.

Porsche has announced that it will unveil the much-awaited 911 Dakar model on November 16, 2022.

The new Porsche 911 Dakar is the brand's hardcore off-road version of its flagship coupe. The 911 Dakar is also said to be the spiritual successor to the Porsche 911 Safari, which gained victory at the Paris-Dakar rally in 1984.

While Porsche hasn't revealed too many details, the company has stated that the 911 Dakar has undergone over 5 lakh km of testing over every terrain, including snow, sand, ice & rock. The car has been subjected to track tests at Chateau de Lastours in Southern France - a proving ground for Dakar rally cars. The 911 Dakar was also taken to Dubai and Morocco to test out its behaviour on loose sand surfaces, steep dunes and consistently high temperatures of 45-degree Celsius.

The Porsche 911 Dakar is said to come with an updated ABS system optimised to work on loose surfaces and a raised ride height, among other changes compared to the standard 911 coupes. The German car brand is yet to reveal the full drivetrain specifications, although it is expected to carry forward the 443 BHP flat-six cylinder engine from the Carrera 4S.

The full specifications, pricing and availability will be revealed at the time of unveiling at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
