Paid Rs 660 to renew my driving licence at another state RTO online

I chose to go to the regional transport office to collect my DL otherwise it would've arrived at my address via post.

BHPian Chetan_Rao recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Renewed my MP04-issued smartcard license at KA41.

Friendly mod Jaggu, who'd dealt with the process before for his own outstation-issued license, was kind enough to talk me through the online steps.

Applied via Sarathi/Parivahan website. Chose KA41 as RTO to avail services at, and picked address change and renewal services (licenses can now be renewed upto a year before expiry). Uploaded self-attested copies of DL & Aadhaar Card (for new address proof). Paid the fees (total 660-odd INR for two services + smart card + postage). Biometrics upload showed 'Exempted', which I assume is due to the digitised nature of my existing DL.

The screenshot below has the sequence of events:

Renewed DL was marked 'Dispatch by Post' on 19 Apr, and was updated in the mParivahan app too. Decided to drop in at RTO today as I was in the area. They had a few weeks' backlog due to envelope shortage, said I can expect DL to arrive by post in 2-3 weeks. Requested them to consider handing it over, if possible. They took my old DL, destroyed the chip in my presence, and handed over the new DL.

ONE month end-to-end, and completely contactless (I chose to go to collect, it would've arrived in post eventually).

Color me impressed.

Here's what BHPian ant_vas had to say about the matter:

Some 6 months back I renewed my MP20-issued license at KA05. I was trying to do it online, but when I entered the MP license number on the Sarathi portal nothing came up.

Went to a driving school and he entered the license number in a different format and viola it was accepted. I was also able to get the address updated to the current one in Bangalore and had the smart card in my hand in 3 days.

Yes, I did pay something extra to the driving school person as he handled this process for me.

Here's what BHPian noopster had to say about the matter:

Cool. I guess the inter-state license process does work then. Update on my case: my wife's DL issued from MH12 with a local address has arrived. We are now proud holders of a current DL with accurate addresses which will help no end when it's time to renew our respective licenses next year.
