The Tata Nexon has been on sale since September 2017. It is offered with a choice of two engines - a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit. While the former produces 108 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 170 Nm of torque @ 1,750-4,000 rpm, the latter develops 108 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and a peak torque of 260 Nm @ 1,500-2,750 rpm.

The Nexon comes with three selectable drive modes - Eco, City and Sport. While the Eco mode is tuned for optimal fuel economy, in the Sport mode the focus is shifted on performance. The City (default) mode slots in between the two. A document from Tata Motors reveals the exact power and torque ratings for each of the drive modes of the diesel engine. While driving in Eco mode, the Nexon's ECU limits the engine output to just 69 BHP and 180 Nm of torque. In the City mode, the engine is tuned to deliver 89 BHP and 220 Nm of torque and in the Sport mode, the unit produces the full 108 BHP and 260 Nm of torque.

The petrol version of the Nexon has similar drive modes, which alter the engine's output.
