I just crossed the magical 100,000 km mark a few days back. It's definitely a special feeling to cross that mark. But it wasn't without a hiccup. Second hiccup to be exact in my ownership of the vehicle. But easily forgivable.
Just a few 10s of KM before the milestone, my car threw an error for the engine.
After a quick scan at MGF Toyota, the culprit was the electric water pump which wasn't rotating at the required RPM. This is quite a known fault for these types of engines and mostly occurs around 100,000 KM. The Service centre had already catered to many ES-es around this age and KM mark.
Cause - The impeller had developed resistance preventing it to rotate within the magnetic housing. (My R&D Session)
Anyhow, the pump was replaced at the cost of approx 30,000 which included coolant, labour & cost of the pump (17,000). Surprisingly cheap, given the complexity of the pump.
After replacement, a quick drive made sure the milestone was crossed with me at the wheel
Onwards to the next milestone!
