My Honda Civic needs a suspension overhaul, should I opt for coilovers

And if this is a good bet, then what are the good options available for the Civic?

Hi All,

Requesting your advice on Coilovers.

My Honda Civic might need a suspension overhaul and based on a few threads here, the thought of coilovers came over. But I have absolutely no technical idea about this.

So, turning in here for help.

Basically I am trying to figure out whether coilovers will be a better option than going for replacing with stock shocks and whether it has any inherent risks.

And if this is a good bet, then what all are the good options available for the Civic?

Here's what BHPian IshaanIan replied:

Coilovers are typically stiffer and lower so I’d suggest against it. You can upgrade your dampers though. Check to see if KYB SR Special is there for your car or if you can find Koni Special Actives (FSD) then nothing like it. Or else just get some new Excel Gs and call it a day since they are at least inexpensive.

If you do find SR Special from KYB and Special Actives from Koni, I would suggest doing some research because although the special active is technically superior, the fact that it goes softer than stock at low speeds due to its frequency selective damping, might mean trouble on a Civic, so in that case SR Special might be the wiser choice.
