Mitsubishi launches Pajero Sport automatic at Rs. 23.55 lakh

Mitsubishi Motors India has launched a two-wheel drive version of the Pajero Sport SUV with an automatic gearbox.

The Pajero Sport automatic is powered by the same 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo charged, diesel engine as the 4x4 manual variant. While the unit produces an identical 178 PS, the torque has been brought down from 400 Nm to 350 Nm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters located behind the steering wheel. Since the SUV does not have a transfer case, it weighs lesser than the 4x4 variant.

Changes to the exterior of the car include a new chrome grille and reworked bumpers with fog lamps. The SUV also gets ORVMs with integrated turn-indicators. Mitsubishi has equipped the Pajero Sport automatic with features such as automatic climate control, reverse parking camera and a new MID displaying parameters such as average vehicle speed, average fuel consumption, distance to empty, electronic compass, altitude, outside air temperature and time.

The new variant is positioned below the 4x4 manual and is priced at Rs. 23.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). At the same time, Mitsubishi has increased the price of the 4x4 variant by Rs. 30,000. It is now priced at Rs. 23.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The main rival for the Pajero Sport automatic is the Toyota Fortuner automatic, which is priced at Rs. 23.25 lakh. Mitsubishi is already lagging far behind Toyota due to a sparse dealer network. With a price  higher than that of the Fortuner, the Pajero Sport automatic will have a difficult time catching up with its rival.
