Having launched the Hector, Hector Plus and the ZS EV in India, MG Motor has now introduced the Gloster. The SUV is available in four variants - Super, Smart, Sharp and Savvy, with prices starting at Rs. 28.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The MG Gloster is a re-badged version of the Maxus D90 that is sold in the Chinese market. It measures 4,985 mm in length, 1,926 mm in width and 1,867 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,950 mm and fuel tank capacity of 75 litres. The SUV comes with LED headlamps and tail lights as well as cornering lamps and rides on 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
The SUV also comes with 6 airbags, 360-degree camera, ESP, Traction Control, Automatic Vehicle Hold (AVH), Hill Hold Control (HHC), Hill Descent Control and Roll Movement Intervention (RMI).
The Gloster comes with a dual-tone interior with brown leather upholstery and 64 colour ambient lighting. It gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen head-unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and an 8-inch instrument cluster. The car gets a 3-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging, 12-way adjustable driver seat with memory, ventilation, heating and massage functions, 8-way power adjustable front passenger seat with heating function, hands-free tailgate, rain sensing wipers, a panoramic sunroof and 71 iSmart connected car features.
The MG Gloster is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which comes in two states of tune. In the Super and Smart variants, the engine comes with a single turbocharger and makes 161 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 375 Nm @ 1,500-2,400 rpm. These variants don't get 4-wheel drive. The Sharp and Savvy variants get the 2.0-litre, twin-turbo diesel unit that is rated at 215 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 480 Nm @ 1,500-2,400 rpm. This engine is mated to a shift-on-fly 4WD system and has an electro-mechanical differential lock. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is offered as standard across all variants. The SUV rides on 255/55-section tyres and gets independent suspension at the front and a 5-link suspension at the rear.
The MG Gloster competes with the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the Mahindra Alturas G4 in the Indian market.
