Mercedes-Benz reveals the F 015 Luxury in Motion concept

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the F 015 Luxury in Motion concept at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015. The "self-driving luxury sedan" is the German car makers' way of showing how the automobile is changing from a "means of transportation to a private retreating space". Length x width x height dimensions come in at 5220 mm x 2018 mm x 1524 mm & the car gets a 3610 mm wheelbase.

Apart from the generous wheelbase which happens to be even larger than that of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, ingress and egress is made easier with suicide doors that swing open by 90 degrees. Four electrically powered seats are placed face to face and automatically face outward by 30 degrees when the doors are opened.

The F 015 Luxury in Motion concept also gets six display screens that are integrated into the instrument panel and the rear and side panels. Passengers can use the interface through gestures, eye-tracking or by touch.

The car is propelled by two rear-mounted electric motors. Each motor produces 134 bhp and 199 Nm of torque. Combined, the output figures come in at 268 bhp and 398 Nm of torque. Mercedes-Benz claims this oomph is enough to power the car from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds before it hits an electronically limited top speed of 200 km/h. On hydrogen stand alone, the car is said to manage a range of 900 kms. Together with the lithium ion cells, the car has a stated range of 1,100 kms.
