Mercedes-Benz CLA sedan launching in India on January 22

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will launch the CLA-Class sedan in India on January 22, 2015.

The CLA is the smallest sedan from the Mercedes-Benz stables. It uses the same MFA platform that is found in the A, B and GLA-Class cars. The car sports a long bonnet, low and sloping roof, and a relatively short boot, giving it a coupe-like appearance. Other features include frameless windows, bi-xenon headlamps with integrated daytime running lights, Merc's COMAND infotainment system, leather upholstery, climate control, sunroof and seven airbags.

The CLA is expected to be powered by the same petrol and diesel engines as the GLA crossover. The petrol unit will be a 1,991 cc, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine developing 181 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. The diesel power plant will be 2,143 cc, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine putting out 134 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. Both engines will be mated to 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The car will be available only with front-wheel drive.

The CLA is expected be the cheapest Mercedes-Benz sedan on offer, slotting in below the C-Class in the company's sedan line-up. It will be a rival for the Audi A3 sedan.
