Maruti Wagon R AMT spotted at dealership stockyard

Last month, we had reported that Maruti Suzuki had commenced dispatches of the Wagon R AMT (automated manual transmission). Now the car has been spotted at a dealership stockyard indicating that the launch is nearing.

The vehicle spotted is a VXi variant of the Wagon R and Maruti is expected to launch the car in this trim level initially. However, earlier this year, an LXi variant had been spotted as well indicating that the AMT is likely to be available in both the trim levels. The Wagon R AMT wears and Auto Gear Shift badge on its hatch like other AMT models from Maruti Suzuki. The Stingray will get the AMT technology as well.

The Wagon R is powered by a 998cc, 3-cylinder, K10B petrol engine that develops 67 BHP and 90 Nm of torque. It is the same engine that does duty in the Celerio and Alto K10 hatchbacks. Like the AMT variants of the Alto K10 and Celerio, the Wagon R will use a Magneti Marelli-sourced 5-speed AMT.

The Wagon R is among the best selling cars in India. The addition of the AMT version is expected to broaden the appeal of the car further.
