Rumour: VW Polo GTi to get 6-speed manual gearbox

Volkswagen is gearing up to launch the Polo GTi in India. The car has been spotted testing on our roads earlier this year.

In international markets, the GTI is powered by a 1.8-litre, TSI petrol power plant that puts out 189 BHP. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG gearbox. The car can do the 0-100 kph sprint in less than 7 seconds.

A media report claims that for India, Volkswagen is likely to detune the engine to 168 BHP. Additionally, customers will not have a choice when it comes to transmissions. The only gearbox that will be available is the 6-speed manual.

Volkswagen's Polo GT TSI and GT TDI have been considered the hottest hatchbacks in India for a long times. Recently, Fiat took the throne away from them with the launch of the Abarth Punto. With the Polo GTI, Volkswagen will try to regain the crown.
