Maruti Suzuki YRA - more images

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki YRA (Fronx) hatchback has been spotted testing once again. The new spy images show the car with left-hand drive, suggesting that it is an export-spec version.

The YRA is based on the Suzuki iK-2 concept that was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. It has sweptback headlamps with a V-shaped honeycomb grille with a chrome strip running along its lower edge in between. The front bumper has a wide air dam with round fog lamps at both ends. The ORVMs of the car are mounted on its front door and have integrated turn-indicators. There is a wiper for the rear windscreen and the rear bumper houses the number plate and reflectors at the extreme ends. The car also gets multi-spoke alloy wheels and chrome door handles. The front door handles are equipped with request sensors. There is a roof-mounted spoiler at the rear and an antenna on the rear section of the roof. The roofline of the car slopes downwards towards the rear.

From previous spy images, we know that the YRA is likely to get black interiors with silver accents. The car is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol unit. A 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.3-litre diesel power plant could also be offered.

Maruti is expected to position the YRA above the Swift in its model line-up. It will compete against the Hyundai Elite i20 and upcoming Honda Jazz.

The i-K2 concept was 4,023 mm in length. For India, it is likely that Maruti could cut its size to less than four metres. This will make the car eligible for lower excise duty rates.
