Maruti Alto gets optional driver airbag on all variants

Maruti Suzuki has announced that it will offer a driver airbag as an option on all variants of the Alto 800 and Alto K10. The cars will be available with an ORVM on the left side as well.

The Alto has been India’s No. 1 selling car for 10 years in a row. In FY 2014-15, the average monthly sale of Alto was over 22,000 units. Since its launch in the year 2000, the Alto has sold over 29 lakh units cumulatively, in India. This makes it the most sold car in the country ahead of the Maruti 800.

The Alto's rivals include the Hyundai Eon and Renault Kwid. Neither of these cars offers a driver airbag across all variants.

In November 2015, Maruti started offering dual airbags and ABS as an option on all variants of the Celerio, Wagon R, Stingray, Swift and Dzire. The Ciaz got an optional safety pack in September 2015 and all variants of the Baleno and S-Cross come with dual airbags and ABS as a part of standard equipment.
