Mahindra U301 to be called TUV300; official sketch released

Mahindra has revealed the product brand name of its upcoming sports utility vehicle, codenamed U301. The vehicle will be called the TUV300 when it goes into production. Pronounced as TUV, 3 double 'Oh', the 'T' in TUV300 stands for Tough. The numeric '300' represents the series name.

Mahindra claims that the design of the TUV300 has been inspired by a battle tank. It has raised shoulders, high front nose, flat roof, high ground clearance and straight bonnet. It is built on an all-new platform and has been designed and developed in-house by the Mahindra design team. The research and development of Mahindra TUV300 has been carried out at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai.

The TUV300 will be manufactured at Mahindra's manufacturing facility at Chakan in Maharashtra. It will be powered by an mHawk diesel engine.

The launch of the TUV300 is scheduled to take place in September 2015. The vehicle will not replace the Bolero in Mahindra's line-up.
