Mahindra to offer petrol engine in all models from 2018

Mahindra is planning to offer a petrol option with all new models from 2018. This announcement was made by the company’s executive director, Mr Pawan Goenka.

In accordance with this plan, Mahindra is developing a 1.5-litre petrol mill. The automaker already has a 1.2-litre petrol mill that powers the KUV1OO. All models coming from the Indian manufacturer will come with either of the three petrol engine options: 1.2-litre, 1.5-litre, or 2.0-litre. Mahindra might add these engines to its existing line-up as well.

This decision comes as Mahindra's reaction to the changing preferences in the Indian car market. The diesel car ban in Delhi and NCR and the narrowing price gap between petrol and diesel have inclined customer preferences towards petrol powered cars. This has forced many manufacturers to introduce new petrol engines in their line-up.
